Best Eyeglass Stores Online To Buy Prescription Lenses

Last updated May 03, 2024Written by human, not by AI

Around 4 billion people around the globe need prescription glasses to see, which is half of the world's population. With such a tremendous need for something so crucial to our quality of life, you'd think that high-quality eyeglasses would be easier to purchase for cheap, but you'd unfortunately be mistaken. That's doubly so if you're trying to purchase them in a brick and mortar store, which commonly have higher prices than online glasses stores.

If you want a good pair of eyeglasses that you won't have to purchase with a payment plan due to its high cost, then the options presented here have just that; quality, variety, and reasonable prices for the products that they sell. See what's on offer, pick whatever suits you, and see better in no time.

Index

#139DollarGlasses

Pros

  • Affordable set price for standard Rx glasses
  • Wide selection of fashionable frames
  • Offers re-lensing for your frames

Cons

  • 30% return fee for bifocal and progressive glasses
  • Customer service and shipping slow at times

39DollarGlasses has a simple premise: If you want a pair of high-quality prescription glasses, then you can get them right here for $39.00. As long as the pair you're looking for aren't something fancy like progressive prescription glasses or prescription sunglasses, then that's the price you'll be paying, every time. Of course, all of 39DollarGlasses' frames are made in-house, and there are no any designer glasses on offer, which is how they can keep prices low. But, considering their free shipping (for any order above $99.00), 1-month no-questions-asked return period for full refund, and 3-month return period for same-value exchange or store credit, this deal is more than generous.

Of course, if you're looking for something like photochromic lenses, you can always buy them here as well, but you'll need to pay more. Progressive lenses and bifocals, for example, add a hefty $80.00 charge to the price of he glasses, and returning them carries a 30% return fee, so you could very well get a somewhat better deal elsewhere. If you're looking for a convenient way to purchase high-quality near or far-sighted glasses for a low, fixed price, then few online prescription glasses stores beat 39DollarGlasses.

While 39DollarGlasses only offers their own in-house brand glasses frames, they do offer quite a great variety of them, and they're all well made. They also offer a good range of lenses and lens coatings, but, as previously mentioned, the standard prescription ones are the most competitively priced. In addition to their glasses, 39DollarGlasses also offer a re-lensing service should your lens be damaged or needs replacing due to a prescription change. 39DollarGlasses even sells contact lenses with a 2-month return period (only if unopened and undamaged) through a sister site called OnlineContacts, in case you want a change of pace every now and again.

And, while 39DollarGlasses doesn't have any heritage brands on offer, they are aware that some still prefer a good-looking and trendy frame. If you fit that bill, then you can take a gander at the New Arrivals, which are fashionable frames that were designed by 39DollarGlasses according to the latest trends. These frames do cost about $10.00 more than the store's set price of $39.00, but you can definitely find a pair there that sparks your interest enough so a $10.00 price increase due to manufacturing costs will seem more than fair to you.

#2EyeBuyDirect

EyeBuyDirect

Pros

  • Very low prices
  • Good selection of frames and lenses
  • Great virtual try-on feature
  • 1-year return policy for defective glasses

Cons

  • Short two-week trial period
  • Only two designer brands on offer

EyeBuyDirect is a renowned online glasses company known for its competitively low prices and high quality. They boast free shipping and returns (to the US) and a 15% discount for new subscribers, along with very affordable prescription glasses and a variety of both low-cost and designer frames in different fashionable styles. On top of this, EyeBuyDirect even offers occasional promotions, including buy-1-get-1-free deals that are more than enough to sell most on their services and wares. The only downside about EyeBuyDirect's prices is that they don't let you lower them even further with vision insurance.

Along with cheap in-house frames, EyeBuyDirect offers a decent array of lenses frames from premium designer brands Ray-Ban, RFLKT, and Oakley. While the designer frames can get quite expensive, the in-house frames go for as little as $5.00 a pair, and adding standard prescription lenses to them can cost as little as $7.00. Sure, special lenses like progressive lenses and high-index lenses get more expensive than that, but it goes to show just how little you can expect to pay here if you go for the more affordable options. There are also a good variety of lenses on offer here, so you can get pretty much whatever you want for a very cheap price. For instance, EyeBuyDirect's prescription sunglasses are sold at an incredibly low price of $39.00 a pair, which is how much most online prescription glasses stores will charge for basic prescription glasses.

EyeBuyDirect's trial period is quite short, though, with them giving you only two weeks from date of purchase to make up your mind whether you want to keep your new pair of glasses or not. They do accept returns for defective glasses up to a year after purchase, though, so you know that they do stand behind their product. They even feature their own virtual fitting app, which works better than the ones on most other glasses sites, since it works like the filters you have on your smartphone, and isn't just a static image layered over your picture. This lets you get a better idea about how a pair of glasses will look on you, and will thus allow you to make a more informed decision.

#3GlassesUSA

GlassesUSA

Pros

  • Wide selection of frames
  • Affordable prices and generous discounts
  • Many designer brands on offer
  • Fair shipping and returns policies

Cons

  • Lenses can get expensive
  • Short two-week trial period
  • Tend to push store credits when asked for refund

GlassesUSA is among the most popular and fastest growing online eyewear stores in the world, and for a few good reasons. For one, their selection is almost unmatched in the industry; they have every type of frame and lens you can think of for sale, including frames from a variety of premium designer brands and special lenses you can't easily find, like high-index progressive Transitions lenses.

But, if you're simply looking for the cheaper, standard long-vision options, then you can find those here for as low as $39.00, along with free US shipping and returns. GlassesUSA is also known for offering a ton of discounts and promotions year round, including buy-one-get-one-free deals and up to 70% discount off glasses from familiar premium brands such as Oakley and Ray-Ban and even designer brands such as Gucci, Prada, and Versace. If you're a first time shopper, then GlassesUSA will also gift you a 65% off coupon for your first purchase. Be sure to also check out this online store on holidays and special events, as they are known to be generous on those days.

But, no company is perfect, and the main downsides of GlassesUSA are the cost of its more specialized lenses, such as its progressive and high-index lenses, and its short 14-day return policy, which leaves very little time for trial. Thankfully, you can't really go wrong with GlassesUSA, and you'll most likely find something here that's both to your taste and within your budget, so check them out when there's a special deal you can take advantage of.

#4DiscountGlasses

DiscountGlasses

Pros

  • Very low prices
  • Generous 1-year return policy
  • Good selection of affordable frames

Cons

  • No live chat customer support
  • No free shipping to outside the contiguous US

DiscountGlasses is another great site for those who want to see clearly without having to feel like they are taxed for the gift of sight. To start, their standard far and near-sighted prescription glasses only cost around $29.95, and they even have a permanent clearance sale section in their site, where you can find standard prescription glasses for less than $20.00. Adding to that free shipping and returns, along with the occasional deals and promotions, such as a 30% discount for new customers, and you have a site that's rarely topped when it comes to affordable prescription eyewear.

DiscountGlasses also boasts an unprecedented 1-year return policy for all their glasses, so you're never in any rush to try out your new purchase and decide whether or not it suits you and your tastes. This in general very much suits DiscountGlasses' approach to customer satisfaction, as their customer support ranks as one of the most helpful and congenial in the industry, making sure you're always in good hands no matter what you purchased form them or for how much. The downside to this is that they can only be reached via email, as the website does not have a live chat function. They do reply quickly, but considering the near immediacy of live chat and how most of us already take it for granted, the lack of such functionality is noticeable.

As for the glasses themselves, DiscountGlasses offers no designer glasses, but does offer a good array of frames from less known brands — such as Foster Grant and Arlington — that are both stylish and well-made. DiscountGlasses also has a nice range of lenses and coating options, including anti-reflective, polarized, and high-index lenses, so you can find whatever you need at a discounted price.

#5WarbyParker

WarbyParker

Pros

  • Quality designer glasses at a reasonable price
  • Wide variety of stylish frames
  • Good customer service
  • Free at-home try-on program

Cons

  • No on-site virtual try-on tool
  • No real low-cost options

Warby Parker is an online glasses outlet that sells their own high-quality designer brand eyewear at competitive prices. If you're specifically looking for a good place to purchase prescription glasses from a recognized brand without having to sell a kidney, then Warby Parker should be serve as a wonderful option for you. Their frames are both fashionable and made with care and grace, and they have a variety of lenses that rivals the best of them. and, since you're buying straight from the brand, there are no middle-men involved, so you can get yourself a pair of designer prescription glasses for as low as $95.00. They also accept vision insurance and have occasional deals that can help you save some money, like a 15% discount on your second pair, so you can drive the price even lower.

In addition to all this, Warby Parker offers free shipping and returns to the US and Canada. According to their returns policy, you could even return your purchase for a full refund no matter the reason, as long as you do so within 30 days of purchase. That goes to show how well they trust their products. You may even try out 5 pairs of their glasses at a time for 5 business days and then return them with their free "try 5 for 5" program. Warby Parker may not sell any other brand, as you may expect, but it's not like you'll be left wanting with their wares anyways.

Our main gripe with Warby Parker, though, is their complete lack of on-site virtual try-on feature. We've all already come to expect such a feature since pretty much every other online glasses website has it, so its absence is very much noticeable. You actually need to download a special app in order to virtually try on their glasses, and, honestly, who wants to download yet another app to their already encumbered smartphone just for that. Since they let you try out their glasses for free at home, this can be forgiven, but it would still be a very handy tool to have.

#6Eyeconic

Eyeconic

Pros

  • Lots of iconic designer brands
  • Thorough quality assurance process
  • Accept vision insurance from several insurers
  • Fantastic selection of high-quality lenses

Cons

  • Shipping can be slow at times
  • Designer frames are quite expensive

Eyeconic, as its name suggests, is an online glasses store that focuses on the more iconic glasses brands, offering you a way to purchase a new pair of, say, Lacoste prescription sunglasses or Oakley bifocals without having to spend an arm and a leg for them. They even have a Sale section where you can find glasses from known designer brands for as low as $140.00. This price includes a standard prescription lens, and is before any discount, of which you'll find many here.

And, not only does Eyeconic accept insurance from insurers like VSP, MetLife, and Cigna Vision, they also actively encourage you to use your insurance with them, offering things like a 20% discount to any customer who links their membership to their site, or a flat discount for anyone purchasing from a certain brand, such as Nike, with an account with a connected vision insurance. Even if you have an insurance provider that Eyeconic do not work with, you'll still be able to ask your provider for a reimbursement through their site.

Eyeconic is also a safe bet if you're unwilling to compromise on quality even just a tiny bit, thanks in main part to them having the most thorough quality assurance inspection process. If what you receive still falls short of expectations, Eyeconic has a 2-month no-questions-asked return policy, so you can get a full refund with absolutely no hassle. They'll also re-lens your glasses should your prescription change within six months from shipping date.

In short, if you have vision insurance and only purchase high-end designer prescription glasses, then Eyeconic should most likely be bookmarked in your browser.

#7ZenniOptical

ZenniOptical

Pros

  • Very low prices
  • Large selection of generic frames
  • Nice selection of lenses
  • Good rewards and friend referral programs

Cons

  • Doesn't accept insurance
  • Cash return carries 50% fee
  • No free shipping

Zenni Optical is renowned for its fantastic selection of prescription glasses and sunglasses. They offer year-round discounts and their prescription glasses are sold at a minimum price of $6.95 for a good quality frame and short or long-sighted glasses. That's cheaper than you could find pretty much anywhere else. Zenni Optical may not offer free shipping, with it costing a minimum of $4.95 and taking a maximum of three weeks from order to arrival, but it's still a better deal than you could find on most prescription glasses online stores.

Once you get your glasses from Zenni Optical, you'll have 30 days to test if they're to your liking before you can no longer return them. The downside to this is that you can only get 100% of their value back in store credits, since a cash back return carries a hefty 50% fee. That's a real issue if it's the first time you purchase from Zenni Optical and are mainly interested in trying out their services before making them your new go-to for eyeglass purchases.

What you also shouldn't expect is any designer brand being offered here. Zenni Optical doesn't offer premium designers, and only sells their own in-store brands. These are fairly well made and cheap, though, so they're a good choice if you're just looking for a good pair of glasses and not brand recognition. They also come with free prescription lenses (low-index far-and-near-sighted lenses) and even with free scratch and water resistant coating.

if you're interested in the best deals, then Zenni Optical have line of cheap frames that only cost $6.95 per pair, which could fit anyone's budget. In total, if you're looking for a few affordable pairs of standard prescription glasses, you can expect to pay much less here than you would almost anywhere else. While more specialized lenses like bifocals and high-index transition lenses cost much more and are priced more in line with other online prescription glasses stores, saving a ton of money on your purchase every time you need glasses is more than worth the shipping price.

Zenni Optical unfortunately doesn't accept vision insurance, so if you have such insurance it will be wasted here. Take that into consideration when comparing prices with other online glasses shops that do accept things like a VSP membership. Zenni Optical does, however, have a rewards program which lowers prices in the long run by giving you perks such as free shipping. They also feature a friend referral program, so if you and a bunch of your friends need a place to get glasses from then you can save even more money buy doing a joint purchase.

#8LiingoEyewear

LiingoEyewear

Pros

  • Generous return and shipping policies
  • Free at-home try-on program
  • Adjustment reimbursement

Cons

  • No international shipping
  • Limited lens options
  • No designer frames

If you're in the market for fashionable yet affordable prescription glasses, then you should visit Liingo Eyewear and check out their wares. They may not have the closets prices, with prescription glasses only selling for as little as $49.00, their frames are some of the most fashionable in-house glasses frames you can find for that price. They also hand out promotions and discounts regularly, making it a good idea to visit their site every now and again for the best deals and cheapest prices.

Liingo Eyewear is also one of the very few online glasses stores that offer free at-home try-on program for their glasses. Basically, they let you pick 5 pairs to try for 5 days before sending them back. That way, you know full well how each pair feels and looks on you, giving you ability to make the most informed decision possible, and even beating out brick and mortar shops in that regard. They even have a feature on their site that lets you pick out your pair according to what would suit the shape of your face, which is incredibly helpful for anyone who's not intimately familiar with eyewear fashion.

On top of that, they're an easy and risk free way to get yourself a new pair of glasses, sporting some of the most generous policies in the industry, with a two-month return time-frame and free shipping and returns. Liingo Eyewear even offers to reimburse you up to $25.00 if you adjust your glasses in a third-party store.

If you don't care much about heritage brands and are simply looking for well-made luxury glasses at a very affordable price and from a very reputable and customer-friendly store, then Liingo Eyewear should fit you like a glove.

#9TargetOptical

TargetOptical

Pros

  • 3-month free return policy
  • Great selection of lenses and frames
  • Good coverage plan and shipping policies
  • Accept a wide variety of insurance plans

Cons

  • Very expensive lenses
  • No cheap store brand frames

Target Optical, the well-klnown Target's eyewear subsidiary, probably needs no introduction. It's as trusty and renowned as it gets, and, unsurprisingly, has a lot of everything. From designer bifocals to kids reading glasses, this site has it all, and in spades. In fact, few can truly compete with the sheer vastness of its stock. It even has brick and mortar stores throughout the US, where you can even get an eye exam to find out your prescription.

Target Optical's website offers glasses from nearly a dozen designer brands, such as Armani, Arnette, and Ray-Ban. Target Optical even sells special smart Ray-Ban glasses, called Ray-Ban Stories. These glasses have a very slick and compact design, and feature touch controls and built-in Meta technology, which allows you to capture photos and videos hands-free and even listen to music. They also, of course, can come with your choice of prescription lenses.

Unfortunately, though, Target Optical sells no low-cost frames or in-house brand frames. They only deal in legitimate heritage brands, and that's reflected in the prices. You may find the occasional discounted pair of Vogue prescription glasses for $40.00, but the average price here is more around the range of $42.00, and that's for the discounted pairs (of which there are fortunately many).

Which brings us to the real downside of Target Optical: the prices of its lenses. Sure, you can pretty much find anything you want here in terms of lenses and coating, but even a standard single-vision lens will cost you around $80.00, where on most other prescription glasses websites you'd get them for free. Sure, if you buy Ray-Ban glasses, the lenses you'll get will be official Ray-Ban lenses, and not imported lenses that costed less for Target Optical, and therefore for you. If you have special Target coupons you can redeem here, then you'll be able to use them here, but otherwise, you'd better wait for the occasional promotion, discount, or sale.

Target Optical does offer free shipping along with a generous 3-month unconditional return warranty for all their products, including contact lenses (as long as they're unopened). Ray-Ban Stories are the exception, and must be returned within 45 days of purchase. On to of this, Target Optical offers a $35.00 1-year coverage plan that features unlimited glasses repairs for both frame and lens, so if you do purchase from them, you'll definitely be in good hands. Target Optical also accepts many vision insurance plans, which you can thankfully use to lower costs to a more comparable degree to the other glasses websites.

Getting The Right Prescription Glasses For You

To find the perfect glasses website for your needs, first ask yourself a few questions: do I care about brand? what is my prescription? what type of lens would I need? Once you've answered these 3 questions, check which online eyeglass stores have what you're looking for, and simply choose between them based on their services and prices and your preferences. Since all of them were vetted by us, you can rest assured that, if you find your new pair among their wares, then you'll have it in your hands and at a fair price within days.

We made sure that every shop on this list has a nice selection of prescription glasses that are competitively priced for their level of quality and renown, and that all of them have fair shipping and return policies, to make sure that, should you find yourself disappointed by your purchase for whatever reason, you can always return it and replace it for something else. But, above all, we made sure that they send the right prescription with no optical or manufacturing issues since, let's face it, this is your vision we're talking about here. You may have a spare pair of glasses, but it's evidently not your first choice, and that's the best case scenario.

Do remember to check your exact prescription, as well as your pupillary distance, before making the purchase. There's no point in a vision correcting tool that doesn't help correct your vision. to that end, we undoubtedly suggest you see a licensed ophthalmologist for the best results.
